Results from the 30 studies (17 reporting ACL injuries and 16 reporting ankle sprains) included in the meta-analysis showed females had a threefold higher incidence rate of ACL injuries than males, and both ankle sprain and ACL injury incidence rates increased as playing level increased and were higher during games than training. The reported incidence rates according to sex, playing level, and setting could be used to inform preventative strategies aimed at mitigating injury risk among basketball players. Furthermore, given the inconsistencies and deficiencies in reporting across studies, important recommendations for future injury research in basketball are provided. We measured HRV at rest and in a fatigued state using impulse-radio ultra wideband (IR-UWB) radar in a noncontact fashion and compared the measurements with those obtained using electrocardiography (ECG) to assess the reliability and validity of the radar measurements. HRV was measured in 15 subjects using radar and ECG simultaneously before (rest for 10 min before exercise) and after a 20-min exercise session (fatigue level 1 for 0–9 min; fatigue level 2 for 10–19 min; recovery for ≥ 20 min after exercise). HRV was analysed in the frequency domain, including the low-frequency component (LF), high-frequency component (HF) and LF/HF ratio. The LF/HF ratio measured using radar highly agreed with that measured using ECG during rest (ICC = 0.807),
fatigue-1 (ICC = 0.712), fatigue-2 (ICC = 0.741) and recovery (ICC = 0.764) in analyses using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs). The change pattern in the LH/HF ratios during the experiment was similar between radar and ECG. The subject’s body fat percentage was linearly associated with the time to recovery from physical fatigue (R2 = 0.96,
p < 0.001). Our results demonstrated that fatigue and rest states can be distinguished accurately based on HRV measurements using IR-UWB radar in a noncontact fashion.
Purpose: We sought to assess the relationship between physical activity (PA) and pain within the available sample, with secondary aims to assess prevalence of pain, PA levels, health care seeking behaviors, and impact of pain on daily activities and work.

Methods: We conducted an epidemiological cross-sectional observational study utilizing National Health Interview Survey data from 2020. We examined the self-reported adherence to current PA guidelines and the prevalence of pain. We hypothesized those dealing with pain were less likely to meet PA guidelines. The PA levels, pain prevalence, frequency, and intensity were assessed via the survey and relationships explored via modeling.

Results: Of 31,568, 46% were men and 53.99% women with mean age of 52.27 yr (±17.31 yr). There were 12,429 (39.37%) participants that reported pain on some days, 2761 (8.75%) on most days, and 4661 (14.76%) every day. The odds of engaging in PA decreased in a stepwise fashion based on frequency and intensity of pain reporting when compared with no pain. Importantly, PA is a significant correlate affecting pain reporting, with individuals engaging in PA (strength and aerobic) demonstrating two times lower odds of reporting pain when compared with those not meeting the PA guidelines.

Conclusions: There is a significant correlation between meeting PA guidelines and pain. Meeting both criteria of PA guidelines resulted in lower odds of reporting pain. In addition, the odds of participating in PA de
Testosterone and cortisol are classic anabolic and catabolic hormones, with a bidirectional relationship. Low-carbohydrate diets may affect these hormones, however individual studies show conflicting results. Therefore, we conducted a review to settle the controversy. The results indicated that low-carbohydrate diets cause a short-term increase in cortisol over the first couple of weeks, after which levels appear to return to baseline. This may be part of the adaption process to such diets, and non-pathological. Also, the results suggested that very high-protein diets may decrease testosterone, possibly in an effort to upregulate the urea cycle and increase nitrogen excretion. Although, this finding only applied to very high-protein diets, with protein intakes roughly three times the average person's. This multicentre study assessed 25(OH)D3 concentrations from dried blood spots (DBS) in 5–18-year-old Indian children and adolescents using a standardized protocol and identified factors contributing towards vitamin D deficiency. Cross-sectional, observational school-based study was conducted by multi-stage stratified random sampling. A city and nearby village were selected from 6 Indian states covering wide geographical areas. Demography, anthropometry, body-composition, dietary-intakes and DBS samples were collected. 25(OH)D3 was assessed from DBS using Liquid chromatography with tandem-mass spectrometry. Vitamin-D status was assessed in 2500 children; with additional data collected on a subset (n = 669) to assess predictors. Mean vitamin-D concentration was
45.8 ± 23.9 nmol/L, 36.8% of subjects had sufficient vitamin-D (> 50 nmol/L); rural subjects and boys had higher concentrations (p < 0.05). On regression analysis, younger age, female-gender, overweight and urban residence significantly contributed to deficiency. More than half the Indian children/ adolescents were vitamin-D deficient or insufficient. Data from preclinical models indicate that vascular insulin resistance is an early event in the disease course preceding the development of insulin resistance in metabolically-active tissues. Whether this is translatable to humans requires further investigation. To this end, we examined if vascular insulin resistance develops when young healthy individuals (n=18 men, n=18 women) transition to an obesogenic lifestyle that would ultimately cause whole-body insulin resistance.
